How to Help Our Kidnapped Boys

By Jackie Ross

As you have unfortunately heard by now, three boys on their way home from school for Shabbat were abducted last Thursday night by a terrorist organization here in Israel. The country has been united in deep longing for them to be reunited with their families. Because until their families are whole again, the Jewish people will not be whole. Our pain is compounded by the feeling of utter helplessness. When someone you care about is in danger, it is normal to do want to do something to help, but there is very little most of us can do. One thing we can do is pray.

The video below is a group of Jewish children singing 'Acheinu Col Beis Yisroel', a moving song pleading to God that He should release all Jews in dangerous situations. This song is many hundreds of years old, and a sad reminder that instances of kidnapping are nothing new for the Jewish people. The words in Hebrew and an English translation are below. Please pray for the speedy return of our missing brothers:

Yaakov Naftali ben Rachel Devorah
Gilad Michael ben Bat Galim
Eyal ben Iris Teshurah

We are brothers, all of the House of Israel,
Whether in captivity or in trouble, at sea or on land,
May God have mercy on them and bring them forth from trouble to freedom,
From darkness to light, from subjugation to redemption,
Speedily, very soon.
